Bangkok/ 16 August 2021 - Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited announces its operating results for the second quarter of 2021, which has achieved a total revenue amounting to 1,442.9 million baht, increased by 39.0 percent compared to the same period last year. For the six-month period of year 2021, the company reported total revenue amount 2,800.2 million baht, decreased by 61.8 percent compared to the same period of 2020.
Mr. Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, President of Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited commented that, "In the second quarter of 2021, total revenue of the company was 1,442.9 million baht, increased by 39.0 percent compared to the same period of 2020, due to better management of travel demands and flight frequency of domestic routes such as Bangkok - Samui, Bangkok - Chiang Mai, Bangkok – Sukhothai, Bangkok - Lampang, Bangkok - Phuket, Bangkok - Trat and Hat Yai – Phuket. The number of flights increased by 102.4 percent while the number of passengers carried increased by 229.8 percent from the same period of last year. This gain is because the total expenses of the second quarter of 2021 dropped by 47.7 percent (1,936.6 million baht) from same period last year. Also in the same period of 2020, almost every country around the world had been severely impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak and government restrictions which resulted in the increased number of flights and passengers carried.
“For the six-month period of year 2021, the company reported total revenues amounting to 2,800.2 million baht, decreased by 61.8 percent. The downward trend of total revenue was the result of airline business decreasing by 88.8 percent, airport business operations decreasing by 85.3 percent and airport-related businesses decreasing by 39.5 percent. The company reported its net loss at 1,454.4 million baht of which the loss attributable to the equity holders of the company was 1,431.6 million baht. Loss per share for the period was 0.69 baht.” Mr. Puttipong added.
In regards to COVID-19 precautions and prevention measures, the company has strengthened and enhanced its policy for both the airline and airports to be in accordance with the standards and guidance of The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) regarding practices in passenger service for domestic flight routes during the COVID-19 situation. The company has temporarily suspended in-flight meals service and closed all of its passenger lounge services in recognition of our passengers and staffs’ health and safety being the utmost priority.
For airport-related businesses and investments, in May 2021, the Board of Directors approved the company to terminate the long-term lease agreement, which had remaining leasehold rights of 15.5 years approximately, (and related agreements) between the company and the Samui Airport Property Fund. As a result of this termination, the company will be able to operate Samui airport without being subjected to any further obligations to the property fund in terms of the agreements terms and conditions. In addition this will allow the company to be more flexible in business operations and to use the airport asset for more benefits.
The Airports of Thailand (AOT) approved relief measures due to COVID-19 pandemic for all business operators including Bangkok Air Catering (BAC), Worldwide Flight Services Bangkok Air Ground Handling Company Limited (BFS Ground) and WFS-PG Cargo Company Limited (BFS Cargo). The relief measures offered a 50% discount of rental fees to be waived for a minimum guarantee obligation.
As for other investments, in June 2021, U-Tapao International Aviation Co., Ltd. (UTA) submitted the completed Master Plan to the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) for consideration and approval. The international design architect (IDA) was selected to design the new passenger terminal for this project. The selected IDA has extensive experience in large scale airport terminal design works.
