Sukhothai Airport

Sukhothai Airport is built on 1,018 rai of land in Ampur Sawankaloke, Sukhothai Province. Construction of the Airport started in 1992, was completed in 1996 and opened to service the first flight, operated by 70-seat ATR72-500 aircraft, on 12 April 1996.

Two main supporters in operation of Sukhothai Airport came from Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Limited (AEROTHAI) and the Department of Meteorology. AEROTHAI took charge of air traffic control, installed air navigation and communication equipment and provided VSAT satellite communications system. While the Department of Meteorology installed devices to observe weather conditions around the airport such as anemometer, barometer and thermometer.

Sukhothai Airport was granted a license to provide Customs, Immigration and Quarantine clearance for convenience of passengers from abroad who wish to travel to Sukhothai or passengers from Sukhothai who wish to travel to another country.

In addition, Sukhothai Airport is certified Carbon Footprint for Organization in 2017 among 4 other areas including Samui Airport (certified in 2016 and 2017), Trat Airport, Bangkok Airways Offices, and Hangar Facilities which demonstrates the airline’s awareness and commitment towards global warming and climate change issues.
