Maldives

Islands of Paradise

A No.1 destination for lovebirds, honeymooners and old-time companions, the Maldive Islands welcomes a continuous stream of loving visitors. Located in the Indian Ocean, the 1,192 coral islands were formed by a double chain of 26 atolls oriented north-south off the Lakshadweep islands that belong to India. The magnificent shades of blue reflecting from the seawater contrasts with the white sandy beach, making a perfect view for photography and sightseeing. Everyone's favorite corner on the islands is, however, the "over-water bungalow" where guests can relax in an elevated room perched over the sea. Due to its magical charm, the islands have gained the esteemed status of "The Pearl of Indian Ocean".

Since most of the islands’ population is Muslim, pork dishes are rarely found here. Plus, no alcohol can be flown in by visitors, but alcoholic drinks can be ordered in the resorts. The islands' big celebration falls on November 11 to commemorate the republic declaration in 1968, thus ending the 853-year-old monarchy. The perfect time to visit is between December and March, when the sky is clear and the islands are free from monsoons.

Must-see Sights and Activities

The Maldivian Museum

The Maldivian Museum is also another key attraction, as it houses more than a thousand pieces of national historical items in a place where you can learn about the history of the island.

The Male HukuruMiskiy Mosque

The Male HukuruMiskiy Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Male, the capital city of Maldives. The most stunning part of the mosque is the coral ornate on the wall, which boasts many kinds of motifs and Arabian scripts; another essential place to visit when in Male.

Diving in the Sea

Enjoy a variety of water activities in the clear sea, including snorkelling, scuba diving, kayaking, fishing and sailing. Splendid coral reefs are waiting below the sea for you to explore, while a bird’s-eye view from a private seaplane can open a totally new perspective. Parasailing can allow you to witness the beauty of the atolls in an adventurous way.

Slow-life Relaxation

Serenity is synonymous with Maldives, and one can find a simple, relaxing life here in an instant. Reading a book on a resort room's balcony can be unbelievably peaceful when you're in Maldives, as the only visitors who will come by are the fish in the sea. An afternoon at a spa will help you regain your peace of mind effortlessly, while a bike ride around the island can clear your mind of any worries you have brought with you.

Delicious Menu

Most resorts serve full-scale international buffet, plus local dishes, but you should not by any means miss a dinner at the world's first undersea restaurant, where fusion food is served daily with a spectacular show. The recommended dish is anything with fresh tuna from the Indian Ocean.
