The most outstanding attraction in the city is AhsanManzil or known as pink or the pink palace. It was the official residential palace and represents the great monarchy of the past. The architecture is a beautiful combination of European and far Eastern art, which has now been designated as a national museum. The stunning white architecture of the Rose Garden Palace exhibits a western style, featuring beautiful embellishments.
Lalbagh Fort with its prominent 6m high wallsis an incomplete palace fortress designed in 1678 by a Bengali prince but his successors could not finish building it. The fortress was later turned into a tomb and a museum that displayed ancient artifacts such as weapons, armours and coins.
BaitulMukarram Mosque is the oldest mosque in the country and is situated in the heart of Dhaka. The path at the front leads to the fountain area, which is designated for Islamic religious activities. Ramna Park is a large park that comprises of a lake, surrounded by beautiful trees and is perfect for a casual walk.
Jatiyo Sriti Soudho (National Martyrs' Memorial)
The monument in Savar, 35 kilometres northwest of Dhaka, is a symbol of sacrifice for the heroes killed during a 1971 war that brought the freedom of the Bengali people. The battle eventually led to Bangladesh's independence. Outside the memorial are markets and stalls selling miscellaneous items such as dolls, CDs and accessories.
A commerce hub and a port city situated 260 kilometres from the capital, Chittagong is the integral part of the country’s industry. With thousands of factories, Chittagong exports countless products, including brand name merchandise. It is thus a heaven for shoppers, offering fashion items, pink pearls, wooden crafts, paintings and woven mats, among a hoard of other items.
Cox's Bazar is a seaport town that is also a popular tourist destination of Bangladesh, 200 kilometres from Chittagong. Its highlight is a120-kilometre stretch of beach that hosts a wide array of seafood restaurants and accommodation. Popular activities include chilling out at the beach, horse riding and people watching.
Similar to India, Bangladesh has special cooked rice called pilau and naan. For snacks, people enjoy eating pann that contains a bite-sized herb stuffing. For dessert, rasmalai is made from soft dough mixed with cheese, milk, sugar and spices - a perfect choice for a sweet tooth.
